Amado Pineda

Amado Pineda is a Filipino meteorologist who became the first widely recognized television weatherman in the Philippines.

A meteorologist with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Pineda began doing weather forecasts for the evening newscast of GMA Network in the 1970s until the 1980s. While hardly trained as a television presenter, Pineda nonetheless became popular, being as he was then, the only television weatherman in the 1970s and 1980s; for catchphrases like, "That's the latest from PAGASA" at every end of his forecast and "Kaya mga bata, may pasok bukas" ("And so children, school is open tomorrow") after a forecast for a weak tropical storm.

Pineda made several cameo appearances in films, in roles mostly spoofing himself. The comedian Tessie Tomas also gained renown with her own spoof of Pineda appearing on CHAMPOY, her character named Amada Pineda.

Pineda is now the head of Weathernews Philippines, Inc., a commercial weather bureau.
